Fuel scarcity: I could barely keep up with work- Funmilola

On today’s edition of PoliZ Life, Funmilola from Lagos, a remote worker, shares how fuel scarcity and unreliable electricity are disrupting her ability to work from home. Her story sheds light on the growing challenges faced by many Nigerians.

With PoliZ Life, we highlight stories like these to show how policy and government decisions impact the everyday lives of Nigerian youths.

As a remote worker, the fuel scarcity and poor electricity made it tough to keep up.

Getting fuel became a daily struggle. When I found a station with fuel, the queue was insanely long. Sometimes, they run out of fuel before it gets to my turn.

On days when I couldn’t find fuel, I had to buy from black market sellers at inflated prices. This ate into my already tight budget.

Wen I lack power, I had to either reschedule my meetings or leave my house to pay to use a workspace.

Most times, I was either late or I missed the meeting. I can’t even begin to explain this poor electricity situation.

The heat was unbearable, especially during those long hours without power.
It’s hard to focus on work when you’re sweating a lot and your computer keeps shutting down from lack of power.

It was a constant struggle just to keep things running, and felt like I was fighting a battle everyday.

Funmilola’s story highlights the harsh reality of fuel scarcity and poor electricity, revealing just how critical these issues have become.
